On 29th and 30th September 2018 I attended the Budgerigar Society World Championship Show in Doncaster and with the help of my husband Steve, we had a successful first trade stand at this event. The colourful display featured Jenny K Home budgie cushions, mugs and scarves, as well as budgie cards which were intended to be a new trial at this event.
Jenny K Home designs were very well received by all and a number of customers provided great feedback too. I now have so many ideas for designs and products that I could sell at attending next year's show. Of course, not everything went to plan, for example I forgot my sketch book which would have been useful to show people what I actually draw. Perhaps next time I will remember this as well as bringing a few items to sew (health and safety permitting).
However we did meet one of the more famous budgie breeders: Geoff Capes!
Geoff was a great person to meet and has twice won the title of World's Strongest Man! Now an expert budgie breeder, Geoff was very helpful in suggesting a few ideas for the Jenny K Home stand and very kindly posed with one of my scarves!
The event was filled with hundreds of budgies, most of which were entered into the competition for judging by type, societies and show champions across various categories. I have to say, the Budgerigar Society World Championship Show was one of the most noisiest events I've been to however I loved seeing all the different types of birds which included finches as well as budgies.

Of course, the day wasn't all about looking at cute budgies and selling my wares: As part of the Budgie Society's arrangement for Jenny K Home to be allowed a stall, I donated a pair of budgie cushions to the raffle which was drawn on the Sunday. I felt very privileged that my cushions were placed as part of the third prize along with an exhibition budgie show cage which had been donated by another member. A lucky lady drew the winning ticket and gave me permission to pop this lovely photo in my blog:
Overall, the day was a real success and I have met many people who love my work - it's a much needed boost! I'm already thinking about attending other events, so keep your eyes peeled... And in the meantime, you can still purchase budgie mugs, cushions and scarves from the Jenny K Home Etsy shop.
